General facts from the 2018 M-1 Filings:

  • 782 MEWAs filed an M-1 Form for 2018.
  • Of 782 MEWAs, 605 were fully-insured and 177 were self-insured.
  • There were 1,889,180 participants in the fully-insured plans and 612,178 participants in the self-insured plans.
  • The top 3 states with fully-insured MEWAs were California (93), Washington (53), and Texas (48).
  • The top 3 states with self-insured MEWAs were Ohio (17), Texas (13), and Montana (9).
